Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will separate from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then settled his debts and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group reach places they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.
